Event Report 2013-14 October

Excursions

Goa  
Dipsites of class VI, VII & VIII had a four days tour to Goa from 7th October 2013 to 10th October 2013 and the Senior students from IX to XII went there from 10th to 13th October 2013. It is famous for its magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendour of its temples, churches and old houses.
The students had fun at Bambolim beach where they strolled on the soft sand of the shore, collecting shells. They visited Mangesh temple, Say Cathedral, museum and the most famous church Basilica of Bom Jesus. They learnt about the mummified body of St. Francis Xavier. Visit to Dona-Paula was exciting and the sun set view amazed the students.
They had great fun at Splash Water Park. They enjoyed the rides in the park. The wonderful rain dance by the children could not stop others to tab their feet. They also visited Fort Aguada, which was built by the Portuguese in 1609 that has been converted into Central Jail now. They clicked snaps of the shooling spots of the famous Hindi movie Dil Chahata Hai. They had a rocking evening cruise with live Goan Band.
The students also got an opportunity to see the Cock Pit of an airoplane at Ahmedabad Airport.
Teacher’s Chef Competition at DPS, Udaipur  
Teacher’s Chef Competition was organised at DPS Udaipur by International Institute of Hotel Management on 21st October, 2013.The teachers enthusiastically participated in this competition and presented mouth relishing dishes. The members of IIHM Jaipur judged all dishes and told the chefs about the merits and limitations of their items. Recipes like Gulabajmun ki Sabzi, Floating Iceland, Shepherd’s Pie with Garlic Bread, Stuffed Tomato etc. were served in unique style. On this occasion, the Principal, Ms. Neeru Tandon and Member Management, Mam Mani Agrawal motivated all the teachers and praised the food items prepared by them.

DPS Udaipur wins in State Athletics
 The students of Delhi Public School Udaipur brought laurels to school by getting medals in the District and State level athletics. The ‘District level’ event was organised at Kanod in which Pinaki Agrawal bagged gold in 100 and 200 mts., Pradhyum secured gold in 200 and 400 mts. while Avdesh Pratap Singh received silver medal in 400 mts. At the ‘State level’ which was organised at Jodhpur, Pinaki bagged bronze medal in 100 and 200 mts. while Pradhum bagged bronze in 200 mts. In the State level Relay Race, Pradhum Singh, Sahil Khan, Sameer Chippa and Avdesh Pratap got silver medal. The Principal, Ms. Neeru Tandon congratulated all the winners and motivated them to pursue their goal with hard work and dedication.
The CBSE Athletics
Pinaki Agrawal from DPS Udaipur participated in the CBSE Cluster Level Athletics hald at Baharror, Alwar from 28th October to 30th October 2013 and bagged gold in 100 mts. and silver in 400 mts. She has been selected for the nationals. The Principal, Ms. Neeru Tandon congratulated her on this success.



Inter DPS Volleyball Tournament-2013
 Delhi Public School, Udaipur had the honour to host the Inter DPS Volleyball Tournament (Girls open) for Zone 5 and 6. The Tournament took place from 17th October to 19th October-2013. Total 6 teams viz. DPS Balco Nagar, DPS Indore, DPS Bopal, DPS Navi Mumbai, DPS Nagpur and DPS Udaipur participated in the tournament. The inaugural ceremony took place on 17th October. The ceremony was graced by the eminent presence of Mrs. Lovelene Claire, President of Udaipur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Shri Govind Agarwal, the Pro Vice Chairman DPS, Udaipur who declared the tournament open.
The Tournament was conducted smoothly under the supervision of the sports officials from the District Volleyball Association, Udaipur.
The Semi final matches were played on the 18th October which gave the tournament, its final teams. The final matches were played on the 19th of October with Hard Line match between DPS Udaipur and DPS Balco and the Final match between DPS Bopal, Ahmedabad and DPS Indore.
Dr. N.N. Singh Rathore, Managing Director of Bhopal Nobles Physical Education College, Udaipur & Shri Piyush Kachhawa graced the valedictory function as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour respectively.
A fusion dance and DPS Anthem performed by the junior students boosted the morale of the teams.
The results of the Tournament are as follows:

The participation trophy, certificates & the CD of the tournament were provided to all teams.
The school thanked the Delhi Public School Society, the Principals of the participating schools and the coaches for providing assistance & co-operation in the successful completion of the tournament.

School Principal Appointed as ‘City Coordinator’ & School as Nodal Centre for Verification of evidence of Assessment
The educational system has undergone a complete transformation with the introduction of CCE. The assessment methodology has also changed to evaluate the student in all the aspects. The assessment must take into account all the aspects of personality development and hence to incorporate, the Summative Assessment and Formative Assessment have been introduced in all the schools of the CBSE. Assessment in scholastic areas is done informally & formally using multiple techniques of evaluation continually & periodically with the diagnostic evaluation taking place at the end of a term (SA-I). To assist in the verification of this evaluation work the CBSE has appointed the Principal, Ms. Neeru Tandon as one of the City – Coordinators for Verification of Evidence of Assessment for SA-I and the school to be one of the Nodal Centres.
Inter School Competition
 The Commerce Club of St. Paul’s Sr. Sec. School, Udaipur organised an Inter School Competition ‘Advertising A Product or Service’ and a brain storming ‘Commerce Quiz’. It was organised on 22nd October 2013.
These events aimed to stimulate ideas and elevate the current standard of students through interaction and presentation of their innovative ideas.
A team of 7 students from DPS Udaipur participated and secured II position in the advertisement competition. Names of the participants are enlisted below:

They performed on the theme ‘Fairness Cream for Men’. The first runner up team was awarded with the cash prise of Rs.751/- and certificates.
A team of 4 students, viz. Jayshree Kriplani (XII), Shaantanu Sharma (XII), Kuber Singh (XII) and Daksha Telang (XI) participated in the Quiz Competition. Though they could not secure a position yet their performance was praised by all. They were given participation certification.

The Inter DPS Maths & Science Talent Examination
‘The Inter DPS Science & Mathematics Talent Examination is an academic challenge and scholastic aptitude competition to identify and encourage the creativity and temperament of a child in Science & Maths in Delhi Public Schools all over India & abroad.
In the global competitive scenario, this examination plays a vital role. It is conducted in collaboration with SOF.
Delhi Public School Udaipur, as always, endeavoured to bring out the best from the student. A Similar Level I Examination was conducted on 23rd October, 2013 in the school premises between 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. All the students of class IX participated enthusiastically. The children were also given coaching for this exam. During the school hours.
The first 500 rank holders in Level I exam will appear for Level II Exam.
SGAI Workshop
The SGAI Advocacy cum Orientation Programme was held on 26th November 2013 at St. Gregorious Senior Secondary School Udaipur. Ms. Kusum Arora and Ms. Aftab Abbas attended the one day workshop from DPS Udaipur
The ‘SGAI’ is a test specifically designed to assess the students’ aptitude. It includes a self awareness exercise comprising of SWOT analysis. SWOT is a tool to know ourselves- our strengths and weaknesses.
The workshop emphasized on  the need and importance of aptitude assessment in schools  on the importance of decision making in Career Development Process and on the role of teachers and parents. It was an inspiring & appreciable effort.  
Inter School Competitions
The  Inter-school Competitions were held in Seedling Modern Public School on Saturday 19th October 2013.
The activities included:
·        English Debate
·        Vegetable / Fruit Carving
·        Ad-Mad Show
A team of 5 students comprising of Ahwar Sultan, Subh Modi, Pranav Banthia, Pushti Bhogayata and Yatharth Devpura from DPS Udaipur bagged 2nd prize in the Ad Mad Show.
The students were awarded trophies and certificates. It was an exhilarating and motivating experience.   


Navratri Celebration
 On 11th November 2013, a special assembly was conducted by class IX A on the occasion of ‘Navratri’. The assembly was conducted by Kriti Kothari and Sanjam Makkar. The news was read by Chiraiya Saruparia and thought by Harshita Jhala.
Pritika Srivastav and Alia Chittoria presented a speech emphasising the importance of Navratri while Shashvata Ghosh and Ishika Ahuja explained about the significance of nine forms of Devi Durga. Finally to give an essence of celebration of Navratri, a Garba was performed by the beautifully dressed girls of the class in traditional attire. The assembly concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Sanjam Makkar.
Evening Football Camp
Delhi Public School Udaipur has started ‘Football Active Club Camp’ for the students of classes III to V in collaboration with Edusports from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the football ground of DPS Udaipur. Children are taught different techniques of playing football by trained coaches. Children are actively participating in the camp and enhancing their football skills.
Inter DPS Football Tournament
The Inter DPS Football Tournament Zone-6 was organised at DPS Jodhpur from 24th October to 26th October 2013 in which 10 teams marked their participation. DPS, Udaipur participated and performed well but could not make to the finals. The team was successful in defeating DPS Nagpur and the match with DPS Gandhidham ended with a draw. The team lost the matches against DPS Jodhpur and DPS Jaipur. In the finals DPS Banglore won against DPS Jaipur to get the trophy.
Inter DPS Heritage Competition
The Inter DPS Heritage Competition ‘Uttistha Bharat’ was organised by the DPS Society under the following heads to promote heritage preservation and social welfare.
(a) Chitrapata                                  (b) Service before Self
DPS Udaipur participated in both the categories by sending the entries in form of project reports and CDs.
(a)       Chitrapata – Movie ‘Swadesh’ was selected to discuss various aspects including patriotism. Due emphasis has been given to national ideals and principles in the movie and therefore this was considered to be an apt one to discuss the role of cinema in promoting such ideals.
(b)       Service before Self – In this category, a project report has been submitted to the society describing the efforts made to promote help to the underprivileged through the Vedanta group initiative ‘Khushi’.
Young Challenge – Quiz Competition
‘The Career Launchers had organized Young India Challenge Quiz City Finals on October 20, 2013. In the fabulous gathering of twelve schools our team representatives Sneha Anand Shinde, Akshi Jhanwar, Master Devey Singh Rathore, Ishika Ahuja first cleared the written test round and further bagged second position in a very regimented tough rounds of quizzing.
Inter DPS Basketball Tournament
The school participated in the Inter DPS Basketball Tournament held at DPS Bopal from 19th October to 21st October, 2013.
There were, in all, 10 teams in Pool A & Pool B from various Delhi Public Schools. Delhi Public School, Udaipur played its first match against DPS, Nagpur and won by 26-3. Albert Vergese of XII Science scored the highest number of baskets (18). The second match was played against DPS, Balco and was won by 21-18. The 3rd match was played against DPS Gandhidham and won by 32-7 and Albert Verghese was declared as the best player. The 4th match played against DPS, Bopal was lost by 60-27. The school entered into the Semi finals but could not win over DPS Bopal. Overall, the school was able to get the fourth position in the tournament.
Diwali Celebration
 Festivals add to the colour and zest in our lives. It is the time to celebrate, share our happiness and wish all.
Keeping in mind the essence behind one of our very important festivals the boarders, teachers and staff of DPS, Udaipur, celebrated the festival of Diwali on 30th Oct. 2013 with zeal and fervour. The evening was brightened up with the colourful sparkles of the crackers. The flower pots & the sparkles were a feast for the eyes.
Thereafter every corner of the school campus reverberated with the music and the students happily tapped their toes to the latest numbers. Next, it was time to taste the mouth watering food laid out. It was a treat for all the boarders, the teachers and staff present there.
All enjoyed the celebrations amid fun and gaiety, looking forward to the break for ‘Diwali’ commencing the next day.     
NSO Classes
 To make the students realize their potential and take a stride towards achieving their dream, the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducted the 16th National Science Olympiad (Level -I) on 15th November, 2013 for the students of classes III to XII. Around 320 students participated in the Olympiad exam. DPS, Udaipur has tried to expose the students to academic challenges other than their routine exams by conducting NSO extra classes. The teachers have tried to develop scientific attitude, problem solving and analytical skills among the students. Practice tests were also taken to enable them to judge their progress. These classes were found to be quite encouraging and motivating.    
Inter Class Activities
Inter Class Mime Competition – The DPS Udaipur organised an Inter Class Mime Competition on 25.10.2013 for Class VI standard students on the topic, ‘Air Pollution during Diwali’. Each class was divided into four groups and each group consisted of 6-8 students. With this activity our aim was to promote the awareness regarding eco-friendly Diwali and bad effects of fire crackers.
Mr. Bharat Verma and Mr. Ashwini Rathore judged the groups on the basis of synchronization, message, expression and body language. Three positions were awarded. First position was won by ‘Seven Fire Works’, Second position won by ‘India’s Seven Stars’ and Third position was won by ‘Fire Fox’.
All the students had a refreshing exposure to team work and creative expressions. Dipsites indeed came up with constructive message
Class – VII
Inter class activity ‘Scrabble’ was conducted for grade VII to make them know about our mythological epic ‘Ramayan’ The students were provided worksheets based on MCQ, Crosswords, puzzles, anagrams and brain teasing questions. The students learnt to work in team and enhanced their creativity by making alluring paintings based on ‘theme eco friendly Diwali’.

A Report on the Inter-Class Quiz for class VIII
The Inter-class quiz was organized on October 25, 2013 for class VIII whereby four top students from each class those who qualified the written round participated. The quiz was focused on Diwali  and rituals being followed during five days of Diwali festival. The aim was to keep our children abreast with the religious importance. On this occasion the ambiance of the venue was beautifully decorated and equipped with the latest Computing devices.

The *winner was team from class VIII C Titled ‘Shining Shimmers’. 

These Inter Class activities are an integral part of the school curriculum as they nurture the co-scholastic abilities of the children & help them to unearth their hidden talents.
Role Play Competition (Significance of Diwali)
The Inter Class Role Play Competition was organised for class IX children on 25th October. The theme was “Significance of Diwali”. The performances were portrayed skillfully in the school amphitheatre. The groups formed in each class came up with innovative ideas and displayed their creativity in acting, costumes, sets and performances. Participation matters more than performance. All the students performed enthusiastically as it was also a part of their formative assessment. 
Inter Class Competition ‘Nukkad Natak’ – An Inter Class Nukkad Natak Competition was organised for the students of class X on the theme ‘Har Ghar Diya Jale’. All the four sections put up beautifully the theme through their enactment on the stage. They brought out clearly that all have a right to live happily and cheerfully. The students were judged on the basis of creativity, co-ordination, acting, relevance to the theme and presentation. The result was declared by the judges and X A stood I followed by XB as first runner up. X C and X D remained on the third position.


Enrichment Programme: English
A workshop was conducted by the HRD department of DPSS Dwarka, New Delhi from 21st-25th  October2013, on classroom teaching, practices related to ASL and the novels which are very newly introduced to the course of study. Ms Anshumali Sharma from DPS, Udaipur had attended the workshop. The eminent Resource Persons in the workshop guided the delegates how to prepare MCQs, value based questions and the way to deal with PSAs. Through theory and practice she had learnt to deal with ASL.  She also learnt to develop reading comprehension with variety of written genres using Main Course Book which is an effective material for ASL too. The Resource Persons directed them to connect the syllabus with each grammar item at the time of teaching textbook.
Novels are to be integrated with the present context as well as with the other subjects. It should be introduced in the class and given during summer vacations to read the complete novel to develop interest in reading.
For creative writing, resource persons guided the delegates to motivate the students to change the end of the story or to add a new incident. English has become a global language and the responsibility of an English Teacher is to inspire students to become autonomous learners.

Scout Camp
DPS, Udaipur has always been a staunch supporter of character building programmes like Scout, NCC, etc. The young scout cadets from DPS Udaipur attended a scout camp sponsored by govt. of India from 21st to 25th October 2013 at Govt. School, Bedla. The camp was also attended by Scouts cadets from various schools in the city. It gave them an opportunity to interact with other cadets from various walks of life and it was quite a learning experience for them. They were taught many life saving skills in the camp like how to tie different types of knots useful in various situations.

Visit to RCA & City Palace
Field trips are organised for the students in order to impart some practical knowledge and to help the students to understand the theoretical inputs. In such an endeavour, a visit was organised for the students of class VII to Meteorological Department of Rajasthan Agriculture College on 29th November, 2013.
The students got a chance to see the instruments used to monitor humidity, rainfall etc. After that, the students were taken to the famous City Palace that showcases the rich heritage of erstwhile Mewar state.     
Maa Mujhe Tagore Bana De!
Stage artist, Lucky Gupta from Jammu & Kashmir presented a Monoact ‘Ma Mujhe Tagore Bana De’ in Delhi Public School, Udaipur on 11th October 2013. The act conveyed the importance of the role of a teacher in the life of youngsters. Very effectively, Lucky portrayed the feelings of a young boy who was striving to complete his studies in spite of his poverty and adverse family conditions. At one point; the teachers and the students were almost in tears. The students of classes VI to VIII were taken to witness the show. The students applauded the presentation. Lucky Gupta was honoured with a bouquet and a memento by the Principal,  Ms. Neeru Tandon who believes in giving maximum exposure to the Dipsites whenever possible.

Result Declaration – The students eagerly wait for the result after examination gets over. In September SA-I and Half Yearly Exams were conducted for classes IV to XII and the result for the same was announced on 26th October 2013. The parents came to collect the Progress Report Card of their ward from 9 am to 12 noon and discussed the result with the teachers. The students came out with flying colours and were happy to get good grades. Those who need to work hard to improve their grades were suggested ways by their teachers.
Halloween Day – Halloween day was celebrated by young talents with great enthusiasm Grade V A presented a special assembly on Halloween Day on 28th of October 2013. The students dressed up in black dress & wore scary masks. Assembly was conducted by Isha Ibrahim Chittoria and Bhanu Pratap Singh. It started with a prayer followed by thought and News reading. A Halloween song was presented by Gaurvi Abhishek Singhvi. Veerupaksh Dwivedi delivered information about Halloween Day. At the end class V A presented a scary skit about Halloween Day celebration in which they depicted that when we celebrate festivals we should always contribute a bit to the poor. At the end of the assembly the class teacher and Headmistress shared their viewpoints.

Inter School District level Skating Championship - Skating is usually considered as a hobby rather than a sport. But when taken as a sport, one can see the zeal and confidence in the learners. A district level Inter School Speed Skating Championship was held at CPS. Students from various schools took part in the event. 110 students (age group – 7 to 12) from our school participated in this event. We brought home 12 Gold Medals, 12 Silver Medals and 8 Bronze Medals. DPS Udaipur bagged the overall Second position. The Principal congratulated all the winners.

Visit to R.K. Marbles – With an aim of bringing science alive and making it exciting by engaging the young minds of today with scientific concepts and natural processes, a visit to R.K. Marble mines was organized for student of DPS. Students were made to visit the different units of R.K.  Marbles – the office sector as well as the mines. All the functions and tasks related to marble mining and the processes related to it were well demonstrated to the students. It was an interesting intellectual experience for all of them.

Special Assembly- Diwali – On the auspicious occasion of Deepawali, a special assembly was conducted by class VIII C on 30th October 2013.
The assembly began with the lighting of the lamp by the respected Vice-Principal Sir. The prayer song was sung soon after this. A speech was addressed by a student emphasizing on the importance of the festival of Diwali in the Hindu Religion and the other religions of the country as well. Then the girls of the class performed a delightful dance on the song – ‘Mere Tumhaare, Sab ke liya.. HAPPY DIWALI’ with diyas in their hands.
The assembly ended with a vote of thanks to respected Principal ma’am and Vice Principal Sir for giving this opportunity. Sweets were distributed to all the teachers wishing them a ‘HAPPY DIWALI’.

RTE Inspection – An inspection was done by the members of District Education Department to verify the details of the students enrolled under RTE act.

NDTV & Khushi – Painting Competition – A painting competition was organised by Vedanta Khushi in collaboration with NDTV on 26th October 2013 DPS Udaipur was the host for the event in which two students each from various schools participated and it was broadcasted LIVE from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The motto behind this was ‘Save a Girl Child’. The project has been taken up Vedanta HZL to promote awareness amongst all to ensure safety of a girl child in the society. Some renowned painters from the city also marked their presence in the event and made murals to spread this message. DPS Udaipur extended its complete support to the organisers of the event for making this event a success.

CBSE Swimming Championship – The CBSE organised Swimming Competitions from 28th September 2013 to 1st October 2013, at Raipur (Chattisgarh). In the West Zone Tournament six states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Goa participated. Around 1200 students took part in these competitions.
We are proud to announce that Ritansh Khandelwal of VI B bagged gold medal in 100 mts. free style and won a silver medal in 50 mtr. breast stroke.  

Junior Editor-II – ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ organised ‘Junior Editor-II’ competition. It was a national level class wise competition where the children were given the format of a news paper which were to be complied using their own creative ideas. Reports were to be made on various assigned topics. In addition selection of pictures, designing advertisements. Usage of colours were to be done on own. After the stipulated time duration of a month the designed news papers were collected. The children enthusiastically participated and came up with colourful ideas.
The results of the competitions were as follows:
Tamanna Kapoor secured Meritorious winner award and Rudra Pratap Singh Ranawat secured special mention winner award. In the category of State Level Winner’s Jr. Editor following students won the prizes – Hridanshu Singhatwadia, Shreya Nandi, Yug Nagda, Quinal Malara, Kamakshi Sarda, Raghav Modi,  Arnav Sehgal, Tanisha Dave, Sidharth Mathur and Sujal Pandiyar.
